The much-anticipated results for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will be officially released on January 13, 2025, according to Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba. Speaking at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) headquarters in Nairobi, Ogamba addressed concerns over the delay, attributing it to the increased number of candidates and adjustments necessitated by the ongoing Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) reforms.
Over 960,000 students sat for the exams between October 22 and November 22, 2024. Traditionally released in late December or early January, this year’s results were postponed to accommodate the heightened demands of the CBC framework, which emphasizes a broader and more detailed assessment process.
Ogamba assured the public of the ministry’s commitment to transparency and fairness in delivering the results. “This year’s marking process has been rigorous to uphold the highest standards. We understand the importance of these results and are dedicated to delivering them with integrity,” he stated.
The delay, according to the Education CS, is also linked to meticulous quality control measures designed to enhance the reliability of the results. “Maintaining the credibility of our education system is critical, especially during this period of transition to CBC,” he added.
Students will access their results via SMS by sending their index numbers to a designated code or through the official KNEC portal. Hard copies will be distributed to schools shortly after the release.
The KCSE results are pivotal in determining placements in universities, technical colleges, and vocational training institutions for 2025. Ogamba urged students to view their performance as a stepping stone for future opportunities. “The KCSE results open doors to a wide array of pathways, including higher education, technical training, and vocational careers,” he remarked.
