As the festive season approaches, the Ministry of Health has issued a comprehensive advisory emphasizing safety measures to ensure citizens celebrate responsibly while safeguarding their health and well-being. The advisory addresses key areas such as food safety, road safety, personal security, disease prevention, mental health, and water safety.

In a statement, Mary Muthoni Muriuki, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health, urged citizens to maintain hygiene standards during meal preparation. “Wash hands frequently with soap and running water, ensure all food is cooked thoroughly, and avoid eating meat that has not been inspected by certified officers,” she emphasized. The Ministry also highlighted the importance of safe drinking water, recommending boiled or treated water to prevent contamination.

Road safety emerged as a critical concern, with the Ministry cautioning against driving under the influence and emphasizing the use of seatbelts and child car seats. “Road safety is a shared responsibility,” Muriuki said, calling for vigilance to reduce accidents during the busy holiday period.

In addition to physical safety, the Ministry stressed the need for mental wellness, urging Kenyans to balance social commitments, avoid excessive alcohol consumption, and prioritize rest. “Stay physically active, avoid stress, and nurture emotional well-being by connecting with loved ones,” the statement advised.

Water safety was also addressed, with recommendations for close supervision of children near water bodies and avoiding swimming under the influence of alcohol. The advisory urged caution in weather conditions before engaging in water activities.

With ongoing health concerns, citizens with medical needs were reminded to carry adequate medication, while disease prevention measures, including respiratory hygiene and malaria prevention, were underscored.

The Ministry concluded with an appeal to all Kenyans: “Together, let us ensure this festive season is safe, healthy, and filled with joy.” Citizens can reach the Ministry through their WhatsApp platform or helpline numbers for additional guidance.
