eCitizen hits 22,000 services, targets KES 1B daily revenue

Immigration and Citizen Services Principal Secretary, Prof. Julius Bitok, recently provided a positive update on the eCitizen platform, following President William Ruto’s directive to 34 government agencies last week. The President had given the agencies a one-week deadline to onboard services onto the platform, and the results have been promising.

According to Bitok, 22,515 services have now been successfully integrated into eCitizen, with the platform attracting 13 million active users. “We are on track to exceed our target of generating KES 1 billion in daily revenue,” Bitok said, highlighting the platform’s progress in digitalizing government services. This marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s push towards enhancing transparency and efficiency in public service delivery.

The PS emphasized that all 34 agencies were required to meet the President’s deadline, and the progress has been impressive. “I have engaged with most of them today, and each is working hard to meet the presidential directive. I can confidently say that, to be conservative, 98 percent of them have complied across all ministries,” Bitok confirmed. He further stressed the importance of full integration of all government services into the platform, underscoring that no agency would be exempt from this process.

Bitok praised the platform’s success, noting that its introduction has not only streamlined service delivery but has also significantly reduced corruption. The platform’s revenue growth has been extraordinary, with daily collections surging by 1,300 percent from KES 60 million last year to KES 900 million currently. “This increase in revenue collection is a testament to the efficiency and transparency brought about by digitising services,” Bitok said.
