The government has officially gazetted Friday, November 1, 2024, as a public holiday, according to a notice from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.
Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi announced that the day has been designated for the swearing-in ceremony of Deputy President-designate Prof. Kithuri Kindiki.
In the gazette notice, CS Mudavadi cited the authority granted by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act and sections 3(b) and 12(3) of the Assumption of Office of President Act, stating, “It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares Friday, the 1st of November, 2024, to be a public holiday, being the date of the swearing-in of the Deputy President-designate.”
Prof. Kindiki’s inauguration is scheduled to take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi. This follows a High Court ruling on Thursday that lifted a previous order barring his swearing-in due to the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
Further details from the gazette issued by Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau confirm that the swearing-in ceremony will commence at 10:00 AM at the KICC.
Additionally, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has gazetted the names of members of the Assumption to Office of the Deputy President committee, which will oversee the preparations for Prof. Kindiki’s swearing-in.
