A JKIA court has sentenced two foreign nationals, Ilo Ebuka Titus and Kanu Arinze, to pay a fine of KES 30 million each or serve one year in prison following their conviction for drug trafficking.
The judgment, handed down in September 2024, follows an intelligence-led operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which led to their arrest in March.
The DCI confirmed that the two convicts were apprehended in the Nyamakima area of Nairobi during a sting operation conducted by the Transnational Organized Crimes Unit, supported by their Anti-Narcotics Unit counterparts. “The arrest of the two convicts on 13th March, 2024, emanated from an intelligence-led operation where they were nabbed at Nyamakima area,” the DCI statement read.
Following their arrest, the convicts led the detectives to their homes in Umoja and Sunton, where authorities discovered 39.04 grams of heroin and 25.71 grams of cannabis. This evidence was key to their prosecution, with both suspects pleading guilty to the charges.
The court ordered that if the two convicts fail to pay the KES 30 million fine, they would serve a 12-month prison sentence. Moreover, the judge mandated that after the completion of their sentence or payment of the fine, the two will be repatriated to their home country. The court also directed the destruction of the narcotics seized during the operation.
“The court has further ordered that the two be repatriated back to their country of origin upon completion of the sentence or payment of fine,” the DCI added in a follow-up statement.
