Outgoing Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya and Fred Mating’i are among the strong critics of William Ruto, attending today’s cabinet meeting chaired by President Ruto.
Their attendance has caught many Kenyans wondering about the agenda of the meeting, owing to their strong resistance to the new head of state before the August 8 elections.

Matiang’i hit the headlines after the confirmation of William Ruto as the President-elect by the Supreme Court when he penned a letter expressing his pride for working under former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
“I exit Harambee House richer from shared knowledge of public institutions and a valuable contact base of men and women whose wealth of training and exposure has given me a renewed sense of purpose,” stated Matiang’i in a statement.
“The dawn of a new administration is at hand. I invite you to take deserved pride in your role as security providers for supporting the delivery of the most peaceful election in Kenya’s history,” he added.

Munya also publicly expressed his disdain for President Ruto, to the extent of being accused of a plot to assassinate the then Deputy President.
“How can I work with someone who once accused me of killing him? That can never happen. If I am offered the position of Raila’s running mate, I’m okay with it,” said Munya in September 2021.
Other notable CSs who have engaged in public verbal confrontations with President Ruto and who attended the meeting include Eugene Wamalwa (Defense), Keriako Tobiko (Environment and Forestry) and Joe Mucheru (ICT).
