As the Gen Z “Nanenane” protests loom, Western Region Commissioner Irungu Macharia has issued a stern warning against any individuals planning to exploit the protests for criminal activities such as theft. Addressing the public, Macharia emphasized the authorities’ vigilance and preparedness to deal with any lawbreakers.
“We are also telling the few that we know who facilitate the protests that we know you and we are after you,” stated Commissioner Macharia, making it clear that the security forces are closely monitoring those who may incite or take advantage of the unrest.
The commissioner also highlighted the leaderless nature of the Gen Z protests, urging the young protesters to appoint leadership to better articulate their grievances and facilitate dialogue. “We urge the Gen Z to come together and get a leader because it would be easier to deliberate on the way forward unlike it is now,” Macharia suggested. The lack of clear leadership has made it challenging to manage the protests and address the concerns of the participants.
Recent demonstrations have seen incidents where individuals, exploiting the chaos, engage in theft and other crimes. Authorities are keen to prevent such occurrences and ensure that the protests remain peaceful and focused on their intended purpose.
The warning from Commissioner Macharia underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order during the protests. Security measures are being intensified across the region to safeguard both the protesters and the general public.
The Gen Z “Nanenane” protests have garnered significant attention, with many young Kenyans expressing their frustrations and demands for various reforms. However, the authorities are determined to prevent these protests from being hijacked by criminal elements.
