Detectives in Siaya County are investigating a tragic incident in which a 60-year-old man was lynched by a mob after allegedly killing his wife over a Kes.30 church offering. The incident occurred in Nyalula village on the afternoon of Sunday, July 7.

The man, identified as Ben Odweso, reportedly stabbed his 55-year-old wife, Pamela Anyango, following a disagreement over Kes.30, which was intended as a church offering but had gone missing. According to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, the couple’s argument escalated, leading to the fatal stabbing.

The couple’s adult daughter, who was present in the house during the altercation, managed to escape and raise the alarm. Her cries for help attracted local residents who rushed to the scene. A relative of the deceased reported the incident to the police hours after it had happened.

Kimaiyo detailed that a son of the couple arrived at the scene and found his father armed with a knife and a metal rod. When the son confronted him, Odweso attacked, inflicting injuries to the son’s neck and leg. The son’s cries for help further drew the attention of the growing mob.

By this time, the mob, angered by the incident, cornered Odweso and subjected him to a brutal beating using stones and kicks. He was subsequently rushed to Siaya County Referral Hospital in critical condition but was declared dead upon arrival. The injured son was also taken to the hospital, where he received treatment and was later discharged.

The police commander confirmed that both bodies were taken to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary pending autopsies.
