Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has formally issued a seven-day strike notice set to commence next Monday.

This action follows a peaceful demonstration held in Nairobi on Monday, during which KMPDU protested various grievances, including the recent shooting of their Secretary General, Davji Atellah, by police during a similar demonstration the prior week.

The incident occurred while the medics were advocating for the government’s prompt posting of medical interns on Thursday.

Atellah was injured by a teargas canister during the protest. On Monday, the doctors reiterated their demand to Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha for the employment of the interns, emphasizing that the delay in their posting has adversely affected healthcare services in public hospitals across the country.
