Airtel Money users can now receive money sent to them from other networks, following the removal of a code that carried a seven day validity.
According to a statement seen by Sharp Daily, a customer sending money will now simply select ‘send money” to any network, enter the number of the recipient to complete the transaction which will immediately reflect in the wallet of the recipient
“This development effected on February 6, 2024, comes in response to the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and industry players’ collaborative efforts to ensure seamless mobile money interoperability as outlined in the CBK (Central Bank of Kenya) National Payments Strategy 2022-2025,” the statement
The National Payments Strategy requires all mobile money providers to ensure a seamless customer services across networks to allow on-network and off-network direct transactions.
The changes allow a customer registered on any mobile money platform to send money directly to someone on another network
Managing Director of Airtel Money, Anne Kinuthia-Otieno, expressed her enthusiasm for the updated procedure, characterizing it as a significant advantage for Kenyans. She highlighted that customers will now benefit from a smooth experience at affordable rates.
Airtel Kenya Managing Director Ashish Malhotra reiterated her comments saying that the initiative is a major benefit for Kenyans as they can now enjoy the convenience of real-time transactions which has cut out limiting user intermediary steps.
