Moja Expressway cautioned motorists about an upcoming 5-day disruption in traffic along a segment of the Nairobi Expressway due to planned maintenance activities at one of the entrances.
According to the press statement issued on Wednesday, the company managing the elevated road disclosed that scheduled maintenance work is slated for the Haile Selassie Toll Station Entrance B, located adjacent to the Kenya Railways Museum. The traffic disturbance is expected to span from Thursday, January 25, to Tuesday, January 30, affecting one lane of the expressway.
Motorists utilizing this route were forewarned about potential traffic delays, and the company recommended planning trips accordingly to mitigate inconveniences.
A segment of the statement emphasized, “Please drive with caution around the maintenance area. Thank you for choosing the Nairobi Expressway.”
Despite the communication, Moja Expressway did not disclose specific details regarding the nature of the maintenance activities at the entrance in question.
It is noteworthy that the Nairobi Expressway witnesses a daily traffic volume of at least 65,000 vehicles. Since its inauguration in 2022, over 10 million vehicles have utilized the elevated road, which was designed to alleviate city traffic and reduce travel times for motorists. Users are subject to a fee based on the covered distance.
Recent developments include the government’s opening of a new exit at Haile Selassie, aimed at redirecting vehicles to Greenpark for testing trials and further easing traffic congestion.
Moja Expressway, in a statement, proclaimed, “Say goodbye to traffic with enhanced comfort, convenience, and seamless connectivity as we launch this crucial addition to the Nairobi Expressway.”
In December 2023, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen unveiled plans to expand the current three lanes at the Museum Hill exit by adding two more lanes.
Murkomen, during the inauguration of the new exit, explained that it would primarily serve those entering the Nairobi Central Business District, fulfilling a commitment to improving accessibility to the seat of government.
