Schools closed in West Pokot due to banditry set for reopening, CS Kindiki

The Ministry of Interior has announced the reopening of schools closed due to banditry attacks in West Pokot County.

While speaking in Cheptulel Boys Secondary School, in Sigor Constituency, West Pokot County after assessing the abandoned schools in the region, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki  asserted the government seeks to provide equal access to quality education to children in the area.

He mentioned the schools earmarked for repair and reopening in the region include Chesegon Primary School, Cheptulel Primary School, Cheptulel Boys Secondary School, Sapulmoi Primary School, Kisaa ECD, Lonyangalem Primary School, Kour Primary School, Songok Primary School, and Karon Primary School.

The CS also stated that the training of 205 National Police Reservists (NPR) is scheduled to commence on Thursday at the Chesta Teachers College Grounds in Sigor Constituency. He added that they will be assigned to support both the National Police Service (NPS) and the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) upon completion of training.

This comes days after Kindiki said the government will increase the number of National Police Reservists (NPRs) in the troubled north with the aim of permanently eliminating of banditry.
