The Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) has reported the rescue of four fishermen who went missing for 27 days. KCGS said that the four had embarked on a deep-sea expedition on November 30.
According to KCGS, the fishermen, namely Baraka, Brian, Fahadhi, and Baya, were scheduled to return to Ngomeni on December 2, but they didn’t.
“Upon receiving the overdue report, KCGS activated a search and rescue operation, which spanned seven days. The families of the missing fishermen were visited, and assurances of their safe return were provided. Collaborative efforts with various stakeholders intensified throughout the SAR process,” KCGS stated.
KCGS stated that they had confirmed the location of the four missing fishermen. They added that the fishermen were rescued in the high seas by a foreign fishing vessel after being swept by strong winds and currents, where one fisherman drowned to death.
“KCGS deployed its vessel to recover the three survivors and reunite them with their families and friends. The vessel successfully completed the recovery mission at 1245 hrs today after rendezvousing with the foreign vessel located 256 nautical miles from the port of Mombasa,” KCGS said.
