A day after rumors circulated regarding the arrest of Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti in the United Kingdom, leaders allied to the governor have strongly refuted the claims.

Machakos Deputy Speaker Stephen Mwanthi and Lands and Urban Development CECM Nathaniel Nganga dismissed the rumors, attributing them to political opponents.

Speaking in Kithyoko, Masinga, Mwanthi criticized the governor’s adversaries for spreading baseless propaganda. He emphasized that the rumors were a desperate attempt by her opponents ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Some of her opponents are afraid and have started propaganda. Maligning the governor’s name does not translate into votes. The Governor is okay and is continuing with her UK trip and will return soon,” Mwanthi said.

CECM Nganga echoed these sentiments, labeling the social media reports as “baseless and hogwash.” He pointed out that international travel regulations govern the amount of money individuals can carry across borders, adding that the allegations made online had no merit. “Whatever is in social media is baseless and hogwash from idle people,” he said.

Nganga further highlighted the governor’s recent achievements, noting that she had launched multiple development projects, including roads, schools, and polytechnics, over the past month. He argued that her opponents lacked a response to these tangible results, resorting instead to spreading misinformation.

Justus Kitengu, head of the Governor’s delivery unit, also weighed in, accusing Machakos County MPs of fueling the rumors. He assured residents that upon the governor’s return, more development projects would be commissioned across all wards.

“We are coming for a marathon project launch, and we will do two projects per day. If they feel threatened by Mama’s presence on the ground, we are coming,” Kitengu said.
