Humming Bird intends to launch up to 20 vehicles by March 2023. By 2024–2025, the sector is also expected to have more than 100 electric vehicles.

According to the co-founder Joe Murai, Hummingbird intends to also venture into the matatu industry competing with the likes of BasiGo and  ROAM who have been at the forefront of popularizing electric mass transit vehicles in Nairobi.

BasiGo announced plans to launch 100 electric vehicles after raising Ksh800 million in finance from Mobility54, Trucks VC, and Novastar Ventures.

The motor vehicle company announced that it had 100 reservations from different stakeholders in the country’s matatu industry. To assist with the implementation of the scheme, BasiGo further stated that charging stations were also being rolled out in the city.
