Tiktok has taken significant action against account violations in Kenya, suspending a total of 60,465 accounts for breaching its community guidelines. This move forms part of the platform’s ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and secure online environment for users in Kenya and globally.

According to TikTok’s second-quarter Community Guidelines Enforcement Report for Kenya, the platform also removed 57,262 accounts suspected of being operated by users under the age of 13. This action highlights TikTok’s commitment to ensuring that its platform remains appropriate for users, particularly minors. The company has continuously emphasized the importance of protecting young users from potential online harm.

Globally, Tiktok reported removing 178.8 million accounts in total, with 144.4 million of those flagged by automated systems. The platform also restored 5.4 million videos after thorough reviews, demonstrating its ongoing efforts to balance moderation with user rights to expression.

In Kenya, the company removed approximately 360,000 videos, accounting for 0.3% of the total videos uploaded during the reporting period. Notably, 99.1% of these videos were proactively removed before any user complaints, and 95% were taken down within 24 hours of detection. This swift action underscores TikTok’s focus on content moderation and the use of automated systems to ensure rapid response to harmful content.

The removed content fell into several categories: 31% was related to sensitive and mature themes, 27.9% involved regulated goods and commercial activities, 19.1% focused on mental and behavioral health issues, and 15.1% pertained to safety and civility. Smaller portions were removed for privacy and security violations (4.7%) and integrity concerns (2.1%).

TikTok’s investment in content moderation technology has proven effective, with automated systems now handling 80% of violative videos, a significant increase from 62% last year. This progress has allowed the platform to take faster and more efficient action against content that violates its community standards.
