Kenya iPay and Visa have partnered to unveil “Tap Ulipe”, an innovative solution that integrates Visa’s Tap to Phone technology into the sleek and portable MobiGo 2 device.

The device, comparable in size and functionality to contemporary smartphones, is set to simplify digital payments for small businesses across Kenya, revolutionizing transaction methods in the country.

“Tap Ulipe” eliminates the need for bulky POS machines and provides a diverse range of transaction solutions, propelling merchants beyond conventional payment methods. Through the “Tap to Ulipe” app, accessible on NFC-enabled smartphones via the Google Play store, merchants can seamlessly accept hassle-free contactless payments. Philip Nyamwaya, iPay’s CEO, expressed excitement about the potential of Tap Ulipe to significantly enhance sales for merchants on the iPay platform, marking a pivotal advancement in small business payment solutions.

“We’re thrilled about the opportunities that Tap Ulipe brings to our valued merchant network. This innovative technology has the potential to unlock previously untapped revenue from customer transactions, giving them access to more money,” Nyamwaya remarked.

He emphasized, “With a focus on ease and security, the Tap to Phone technology is putting our firm at the forefront of innovation in the digital payments industry.”

Visa Kenya Country Manager, Eva Ngigi-Sarwari, highlighted the strategic growth potential for small businesses across the country through the adoption of Tap to Phone technology. “With Tap to Phone technology, businesses can provide their customers with easy and secure contactless payments, fostering trust and encouraging repeat purchases. It is a powerful tool that will elevate the way small businesses transact, allowing them to thrive in the ever-evolving digital landscape,” Ngigi-Sarwari remarked.

The partnership between Kenya iPay and Visa not only signifies a monumental step in advancing digital payments but also stands as a testament to fostering entrepreneurial growth in Kenya. With Tap Ulipe paving the way for seamless, secure, and innovative payment methods, small businesses are poised to thrive in the dynamic digital economy, further propelling Kenya towards a future of financial inclusivity and technological advancement.
