Speaker Moses Wetangula has called for a special sitting scheduled for next Monday, during which the select committee tasked with investigating the proposed dismissal of Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi will present its findings to Parliament.

In a notice issued on Monday, Wetangula announced that the session will convene on May 13th at 2:30 PM, specifically to deliberate on the report compiled by the 11-member select committee.

Citing the constitutional provisions outlined in Article 152(7) and Standing Order 66(5)(b), Wetangula emphasized the committee’s obligation to submit its report within a ten-day timeframe.

The report will address the allegations levelled against the Cabinet Secretary and determine their validity.

The developments follow a significant vote in the National Assembly last Tuesday, where a special motion to impeach the CS was introduced by Bumula MP Jack Wamboka.  This parliamentary move underscores the ongoing scrutiny and debate surrounding the fate of Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi.

The selection of the committee process was based on the proportional representation of parties in the House, with Kenya Kwanza submitting six names, Azimio four, and Jubilee one. The motion garnered 149 votes in favor, with 36 opposing it and three abstentions.

The Order paper outlines the approved members of the Select Committee, with Kenya Kwanza’s nominees including Naomi Waqo, Samuel Chepkonga, George Murungara, Jane Maina, Moses Injendi, and Kassim Tandaza. Azimio’s nominees consist of Robert Mbui, TJ Kajwang, Catherine Omanyo, and Yusuf Farah, while Rachael Nyamai represents Jubilee party.
