A portion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been temporarily closed following a fire that erupted in the early hours of Monday morning.

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) reported that the minor fire incident occurred at Terminal 1E of the airport, attributed to an electrical malfunction.

Although no one was injured, KAA says the terminal will remain shut as a precautionary measure and all flight operations at the terminal have been redirected to Terminal 1A until further notice.

“KAA is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all passengers, staff, and stakeholders at our facilities and is taking all necessary steps to minimize disruptions and return to normal operations as swiftly as possible,” read the statement in part.
