President William Ruto has reproached retired President Uhuru Kenyatta regarding the execution of his favored initiative, the Affordable Housing Programme.
Ruto emphasized that leaders from the previous administration are now acknowledging the feasibility of implementing the affordable housing project.
Speaking during a Cabinet retreat in Naivasha on Monday, Ruto expressed his optimism in the seamless progression of the housing programme. He affirmed, “We will implement the affordable housing programme by any means necessary.”
Ruto pointed out that opponents of the programme, fundamentally, recognize its merit but are discontented due to their exclusion from its implementation.
He cited instances where individuals have come to realize the viability of affordable housing, noting, “Their problem is that it is us who are implementing and not them.”
Ruto highlighted the success of similar initiatives in developed nations and urged for a focus on job creation and providing decent housing for Kenyans rather than fixating on the Housing Levy.
He urged Members of Parliament to lend their support to the Affordable Housing Bill, 2023, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity in the initiative.
