Former Royal Media Services (RMS) Editorial Director Joe Ageyo has been appointed Nation Media Group Editorial Director barely a week after announcing he was leaving RMS.
His entry in NMG has seen the latter’s Managing Editor Broadcast Joseph Warungu who was appointed in 2021 pushed out in what was termed as resignation.
“As Editorial Director – Broadcasting, he will be an integral part of the leadership team and will participate in the development and execution of the Group’s editorial strategy. Joe will be in charge of the editorial functions of NMG’s broadcast operations in Kenya across multimedia platforms,” said NMG CEO Stephen Gitama.

Ageyo left RMS last week in a huff, in what was termed by insiders as a fallout with the management for being an “apologist for Deputy President William Ruto”. RMS owner SK Macharia is among the tycoons supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga’s Presidential candidacy, and any newsroom “romance” with the Ruto wing is seen as a difiance to the boss.
He previously worked at KTN as Managing Editor, and at NTV as Head of News Production.
Joe holds an MSc in Environmental Governance from the University of Manchester, Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication, from the School of Journalism, University of Nairobi and Bachelor of Agribusiness Management, from Egerton University.
