Officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), in collaboration with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), raided and closed an unlicensed alcohol manufacturer in the Njiru area, Nairobi, Monday morning.
DCI reports indicated that the raid culminated in the seizure of more than 5000 fake KRA alcoholic drinks stickers.
The operation, masterminded by detectives from the Economic and Commercial Crimes Unit, also found counterfeit KRA stamps that are currently in police custody.

Speaking to the media after the operation, a DCI officer said that the workers of the plant had fled upon learning of the looming crackdown.
“Workers at the plant who seemed to have gotten wind of the detectives’ arrival fled the premises,” said the DCI.
Cases of confrontation between alcohol manufacturers and the KRA have been common in the recent past, with Keroche breweries being the most recent to be axed by the taxman.
Tax evasion has been the most common phenomenon, where manufacturers release alcohol brands into the market without an exclusive go-ahead from the KRA.
