According to an official notice dated Thursday, December 29, 2022, the embassy of the people’s Republic of China, updated the requirements for Kenyans traveling to the Asian country.

The notice states that China has eased some of the restrictions placed on Kenyan travelers, particularly during the pandemic in 2020.

Kenyan travelers will need to do nucleic acid tests starting on January 8, 2023, within 48 hours before their flights. No Kenyan will be permitted to board a flight to China without a clearance document.

Kenyan travelers will not be required to obtain a health code prior to departure, the Chinese embassy added.

Kenyans traveling to China will be required to fill out a customs form with their test results in order to protect the country from the pandemic.

“Travelers need to declare the negative test result to China Customs by filling the Health Declaration Form either on WeChat mini-program of China Customs or at https://htdecl.chinaport.gov.cn/htdeclweb/home/pages/healthDeclare/declare.html, or via the China Customs APP.” read the statement in part.

Kenyans who submit positive test results or exhibit any fever symptoms will be required to self-quarantine at the entry point.

“Given the ongoing pandemic, the above adjustments do not mean the easing of disease control. Travelers are advised to take primary responsibility for their health and use precautionary measures for self-protection.”

“The Chinese government will continue to monitor the latest trends of the pandemic and adjust the disease control practices accordingly to facilitate the entry and exit of personnel.” the statement read.
