Mount Kenya University (MKU) has made a groundbreaking announcement during its 25th graduation ceremony, marking a significant milestone in its academic and extracurricular offerings. The university has partnered with the Esports Kenya Federation to establish a state-of-the-art training centre dedicated to esports. This strategic collaboration aims to cultivate and enhance the skills of aspiring esports professionals and enthusiasts within the institution and beyond.

The newly established training centre will serve as a hub for esports education and practice, providing students with access to cutting-edge technology and resources. The facility will include high-performance gaming equipment, training rooms, and areas for both individual and team practice. This initiative is part of MKU’s commitment to integrating modern technology and emerging fields into its academic programs, aligning with the growing global trend of esports becoming a recognized and influential sector.

Students will have the chance to gain hands-on experience with professional-grade equipment and participate in structured training programs. The centre will also provide pathways for students to explore careers in esports, from competitive gaming to roles in management, marketing, and game design. Additionally, the initiative aims to foster a vibrant esports community within the university and connect students with industry professionals and organizations.

The centre will host tournaments and events, offering students opportunities to showcase their skills and engage with the wider esports community. In his address during the graduation ceremony, MKU’s Vice-Chancellor highlighted the significance of this partnership in broadening the university’s educational scope and offering innovative learning experiences. The Esports Kenya Federation, on its part, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing the potential for growth and development in Kenya’s esports scene.
