Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is determined to enhance his impressive collection of trophies by securing the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

As the Gulf Kingdom prepares for its inaugural international football tournament, City arrives in Jeddah with the goal of capturing their first Club World Cup, following last season’s triumphant treble of the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup.

“We miss just one trophy to finish the circle and win all the titles City can have,” Guardiola noted.

The experienced manager previously secured the title three times during his tenures at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Despite a recent winless streak in the Premier League, City is considered a strong favorite to win the Club World Cup. Historically, Champions League winners have often gone on to claim the Cup, with the last exception being Corinthians’ victory over Chelsea in 2012.

The upcoming tournament guarantees a new name on the trophy. Fluminense, representing South America, earned their spot after winning the Copa Libertadores for the first time.

However, City may face a significant challenge from Al-Ittihad, representing Saudi Arabia, which boasts seasoned Club World Cup victors such as Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, and Fabinho. Benzema’s historic goal secured a 3-0 victory over Auckland City in the initial round.

Saudi Arabia’s growing prominence in the football world has attracted top-tier players, contributing to the nation’s aspirations to become a sporting powerhouse.

With preparations for the 2034 World Cup underway, the country is positioning itself to host future editions of an expanded Club World Cup, showcasing a strategic effort to diversify its economy and enhance international acclaim through sports investments.
