Malala vs Khalende: UDA Secretary General row sparks unrest at party headquarters

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is embroiled in a leadership dispute as supporters of Cleophas Malala stormed the party’s headquarters today, rejecting the self-proclaimed Secretary General, Joe Khalende. The unrest follows Khalende’s announcement of Malala’s ousting and his own installation as the new Secretary General, which Malala has vehemently denied.

The protesters, chanting slogans and brandishing placards, gathered at the UDA headquarters to express their support for Malala and demand clarity on the party’s leadership. The situation quickly escalated, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Police officers were deployed to manage the crowd and maintain order, preventing any potential clashes or disruptions.

Joe Khalende had declared himself the new Secretary General of UDA, accusing Malala of opposing key party agendas and failing to support the party leader’s initiatives. “He has gone against our party leader; he is on the forefront against the formation of a broad-based government,” Khalende stated. He also announced Malala’s removal from the position, stating, “I am here to confirm that he is no longer the Secretary General of the UDA party.”

In response, Cleophas Malala took to his Facebook page to denounce the claims of his resignation, describing them as “propaganda.” He assured party members and supporters that the UDA remains stable and focused on helping President William Ruto achieve his agenda for Kenya. “Ignore propaganda. The party is stable and focused on helping President William Ruto achieve his agenda for Kenya,” Malala posted.

The internal conflict has put the UDA in the spotlight, raising questions about the party’s unity and direction. Supporters of Malala insist that he is still the rightful Secretary General and have called for a resolution to the dispute.

Adding to the turmoil, Malala’s supporters today stormed the UDA headquarters, vehemently opposing Khalende’s self-appointment. The demonstrators demanded that Khalende step down and reaffirmed their allegiance to Malala. The police presence at the headquarters successfully prevented any violent outbreaks, but the tension was palpable.
