KMTC offers community health nursing scholarships to the needy

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has unveiled sponsored training opportunities in Turkana county for a certificate in Community Health Nursing for the 2023-24 academic year. The certificate course is set to commence in March 2024.

In a recent statement, KMTC announced that the training scholarships will be tailored for the local community in Turkana county and the Refugee Community in Kakuma and Kalobeyei Refugee camps. The training program will be conducted at KMTC Lodwar Campus over a duration of two years.

According to KMTC’s official communication, successful candidates who meet the specified criteria will have their full tuition covered by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

As per the requirements, applicants are expected to possess a KCSE mean grade of C- or equivalent qualifications in English or Kiswahili, along with a C- in Biology, and a D+ in Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry.

KUCCPS portal reopens for final course revision

Applicants must hail from Turkana County or the Kakuma/Kalobeyei Refugee Camps and should provide a letter of introduction from the area chief (for local applicants) or a Manager/UNHCR official in the Kakuma/Kalobeyei refugee camps.

Additionally, applicants are required to submit a brief essay of not more than 200 words outlining their motivation for pursuing the scholarship. Applications must be submitted through the KMTC application portal to the Chief Executive Officer no later than March 15th.

These scholarships are made possible through a partnership between the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the county government of Turkana.

This initiative follows the recent announcement by the government offering scholarship opportunities for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds interested in pursuing a certificate course in Community Health Nursing. These scholarships, facilitated by KMTC in collaboration with Beyond Zero, will also commence in March 2024 for the academic year 2023-24.

KMTC CEO Kelly Oluoch emphasized that qualified candidates from selected Arid and Semi-Arid counties, underserved minorities, and other vulnerable and marginalized groups will be given priority. The two-year scholarships will be available at KMTC campuses in Kapenguria, Kabarnet, Bomet, Loitoktok, Garissa, Kilifi, Kitui, and Msambweni.

To be eligible for the scholarships, candidates must express willingness to serve in their communities upon completion of their studies.
