Kenya’s Global Passport Power Falls

The Kenyan passport has dropped in global mobility ranking from the 72nd to 73rd position according to the Henley Passport Index.

However, the passport maintained its position in Africa, where it stands at number 9, in a continent topped by Seychelles.

Kenya tops the East African Community member states, followed by Tanzania at position 74 and Uganda at 78.

Sychelles stands at position 29 globally and holders of its passport can travel to 153 countries without visas. Other top African countries above Kenya and their global ranking are Mauritius (34), South Africa (53), Botswana (63), Namibia (67), Lesotho (69), eSwatini (71) and Malawi (72).

The Henley Passport Index ranks passports according to the number of countries that holders of passports from particular countries can visit without visas or with the option of acquiring them upon arrival, with Kenyans being able to visit 73 countries.

The most powerful passport in the world is Japan’s, which enables citizens to travel to 193 countries without visas with the worst being Afghanistan, where holders can only travel to 27 countries.
