Kenyan power couple Bahati and Diana Marua have revealed that their highly anticipated Netflix reality series, “The Bahati Empire,” cost a staggering KES 47 million to produce.

The six-episode show, which promises an intimate look into the lives of the renowned musicians and their family, is being hailed as one of the most expensive Kenyan reality productions to date. In an exclusive interview, Bahati candidly disclosed the eye-watering figure, attributing the high cost to the show’s production value, logistics, top-notch styling, and their relentless pursuit of authenticity.

“When we value the show, we can value it around KES 47 million,” Bahati stated. “It has costed more than KES 47 million to produce this show when you look at the production value, logistics… we were real to ourselves. I’ve never seen a show styled that good.”

Filmed over seven to eight months, beginning in November 2023, the series aims to capture the raw, unscripted moments that define their lives, from their relationships with their children and staff to the challenges of maintaining a successful music career and personal brand.

“For unscripted [content], it’s about the mood, the feeling, and just being real,” Bahati explained, emphasizing the show’s authentic approach.

One of the most highly anticipated aspects is the unveiling of the couple’s youngest child whose face had been kept hidden.

The show also promises to address long-standing rumors surrounding the family. “We have addressed a lot of rumors…we have given clarity on a lot of things,” Bahati teased.

With such a monumental investment, which Bahati says makes it their “first big production” as their company EMB Entertainment, the duo is banking on the show’s success to pave the way for future seasons and solidify their “empire” beyond just Bahati’s brand.

“This is an Empire actually, the main character of the show is Diana for this season,” Bahati revealed. “Maybe the main character next season will be Morgan or Malaika.”
