President William Ruto has on Tuesday appointed Ambassador Lazarus Amayo as the Special Envoy of the African Union Champion for Institutional Reforms and Simon Kamau-Gikuru as Deputy Comptroller of State House.
The appointments, approved by the Public Service Commission, aim to augment the President’s capacity in driving institutional reforms across the African Union and optimize support within the Executive Office, a State House press release stated.
As AU Reforms Envoy, Amayo, Kenya’s outgoing ambassador to the US, will play “a critical role in driving AU’s institutional reforms” working closely with the Foreign Affairs ministry and continental bodies, according to Felix Koskei, Head of Public Service.
“With the immense expertise and experience of the newly appointed officials, the Head of State is confident that they will contribute enormously towards realizing our shared aspirations for a prosperous nation,” Koskei said.
Amayo, a seasoned diplomat, has held prominent positions including ambassador to the UN, UK High Commissioner, and Kenya’s permanent representative to multilateral organizations like the IMO and Commonwealth.
In the revived Deputy Comptroller role, Kamau-Gikuru, an advocate with over 10 years’ experience in law, management and policy formulation, will support the President’s official residence operations.
