Following a lawsuit filed by the Law Society of Kenya, the High Court has temporarily halted Joe Sang’s appointment as interim managing director of Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC).
Mr. Sang’ returned to KPC as acting CEO two weeks ago after a Nairobi court acquitted him of corruption charges related to the construction of the KSh1.9 billion Kisumu Oil Jetty.

Dr. Macharia Irungu’s three-year employment with the state corporation came to an end after the board decided not to renew his contract.
Meanwhile, the court ruled that KPC is free to appoint any employee in a top management position as Acting Managing Director.
“The LSK obtains orders suspending the appointment of Joe Sang as acting MD Kenya Pipeline. The board has been granted the liberty to appoint acting MD from amongst the senior management at the Corporation,” LSK President Eric Theuri stated.
Having resigned as the MD in 2018, the LSK claims in the petition that Mr. Sang holds no positions at KPC. The LSK goes on to state that no advertisements were made for the MD job thus far.
The case will be mentioned on March 10 for further instructions.
