President William Ruto has today promoted and appointed new military leadership, marking a pivotal shift in the nation’s defense establishment.
The sweeping changes, announced through a press release from the Ministry of Defense, see Lieutenant General Charles Muriu Kahariri elevated to the rank of General and installed as the Chief of the Defence Forces.
Muriu steps into the role previously held by General Francis Ogolla, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter accident several weeks ago.
Beyond Kahariri’s promotion, Major General John Mugaravai Omenda, formerly the Kenya Air Force Commander, has been elevated to Lieutenant General and appointed Vice Chief of the Defense Forces.
Reflecting the government’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity within the military ranks, Major General Fatuma Gaiti Anmed has been posted to the Kenya Air Force as its new Commander, while Major General Paul Owuor Otieno assumes command of the Kenya Navy.
The far-reaching reshuffle extends beyond the top brass, with a series of promotions, postings, and appointments cascading through the ranks. Notable among these is the promotion of Brigadier Peter Nyamu Githinji to Major General, slated to assume the role of Senior Directing Staff, Air at the National Defense College.
