The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning of cold weather conditions expected to impact various parts of the country over the next seven days. According to a weather forecast report released on Tuesday, August 27, the regions likely to experience significant drops in temperature include the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, and South-eastern Kenya.

The department highlighted that night-time temperatures in some areas within these regions could fall below 10°C, raising concerns about potential impacts on vulnerable populations. “Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are expected in parts of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, and South-eastern regions. Low night-time temperatures (below 10°C) are expected in some parts of the Central Highlands, Rift Valley, and South-eastern lowlands,” the report stated.

The Central Highlands region encompasses counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi. The South-eastern lowlands, meanwhile, include the counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta. Residents in these areas have been urged to take necessary precautions, especially during the night when temperatures are forecast to drop significantly.

In contrast, the forecast predicts high daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C in some parts of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya. The Coast region includes Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, while North-western Kenya covers Turkana and Samburu counties. North-eastern Kenya includes the counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo.
