The Football Tribunal has partially accepted the claim of Adama Keita, a former player of Gor Mahia FC, and ordered the Kenyan club to pay him USD 29,816 (KES 4.7 million) in outstanding wages and contractual penalty.

According to the decision of the Dispute Resolution Chamber, dated 10 January 2024, Gor Mahia FC failed to pay Keita the amount of USD 14,544 (KES 2.3 million) as agreed in their contract, which expired on 30 April 2023.

The club must also pay 18% interest per annum on the late payment, as well as USD 15,272 (KES 2.4 million) as contractual penalty, as stipulated in the contract.

The decision stated that “any further claims of the Claimant are rejected” and that “full payment (including all applicable interest) shall be made to the bank account indicated in the enclosed Bank Account Registration Form”.

If Gor Mahia FC does not comply with the decision within 45 days of notification, the club will face severe sanctions from FIFA, including a ban from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, for up to three consecutive registration periods.

The decision also warned that the case could be referred to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee if the payment is still not made by the end of the ban.

The decision was signed by Emilio Garcia Silvero, the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer of the Football Tribunal, and was rendered without costs.

Gor Mahia FC is one of the most successful clubs in Kenyan football history, having won 20 league titles. The club is currently first in the Kenyan Premier League.
