The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has banned more than 100 beauty products from the Kenyan market following an evaluation of the safety of some of their components.

According to KEBS’s Managing Director Bernard Njiraini, the products contain substances such as hydroquinone and steroids meant for medical use and should only be purchased and used with a doctor’s prescription.

Njiarini further stated that the products were banned in Kenya in previous years, with a mandatory requirement for their registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board should they be recommended for medical use.
