Makueni county Police have arrested three three judicial officers over alleged involvement in the issuance of counterfeit receipts for payment of court fines. The trio, a court assistant, an accountant, and a court driver were arrested Tuesday leading to an ongoing investigation.

Nelson Munyaka Court Assistant, Accountant David Mwaura and Court Driver William Musembi are accused of issuing fake receipts for payments of court fines and forfeitures for the release of accused persons from either court or police station.

Police say the receipts were utilised for the payment of court fines and forfeitures resulting in the release of accused individuals from both courts and police stations.

“They forged receipts amounting to KES 161,000 and we established that they were issued between Feb 14, 2024 and Feb 16, 2024 in respect to some traffic cases where accused persons had pleaded guilty and fined.” Confirmed an officer of Nanguni police station.

The fraudulent transactions involved traffic cases in which defendants admitted guilt and were fined. Police suspect that the individuals currently under investigation facilitated the release of individuals through illegal methods.

Authorities will now focus on determining the scope of the fraudulent activities involving the judicial officers and traffic offenders. This is in a bid to arrest more suspects involved in the crime and ensure that those responsible face the consequences of their actions.
