Jubilee Health Insurance has launched a health telematics initiative called the ‘Do Anything For The Steps’ campaign. This program is set to target individuals in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, encompassing both existing Jubilee health insurance customers and non-customers.
The primary goal of the initiative is to empower individuals to proactively manage their health by integrating practical physical activities into their daily routines. Recognizing the challenges people face in meeting recommended physical activity levels, the campaign aims to address time constraints that often hinder individuals from engaging in regular exercise.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), adults aged 18 to 64 should engage in 150-300 minutes of physical activity per week. Jubilee Health Insurance acknowledges that the demands of work, family, and other responsibilities can make it difficult for many to allocate time for exercise.
The ‘Do Anything For The Steps’ campaign seeks to make physical activity more accessible by encouraging participants to identify and consistently engage in activities that contribute to meeting the WHO guidelines. During the campaign launch, Juan Cazcarra, the Group Chief Operating Officer of Jubilee Insurance, emphasized the company’s commitment to facilitating access to both preventative and curative care. Cazcarra stated that the program intends to demystify physical activity, making movement a natural and enjoyable part of everyday life.
To participate, non-Jubilee health customers are required to purchase J-Care Medical Cover from the company’s website. Enrolled individuals will receive a free smartwatch to track their physical activity. They must also download the Maisha Fiti app to set daily targets and join the wellness community. Those who consistently achieve their targets stand to receive up to a 15% cashback on their health insurance premiums.
Existing Jubilee health insurance customers can join the campaign by downloading the Maisha Fiti app, linking their smartwatches, and starting their journey towards meeting their daily activity goals.
Njeri Jomo, CEO of Jubilee Health, highlighted the importance of creating an active community environment, emphasizing that communities play a crucial role in motivating individuals and influencing overall well-being. Jomo expressed optimism that promoting physical activity would yield significant benefits in improving health outcomes and fostering a healthier, more productive population.
Caroline Ndung’u, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Jubilee Insurance Group, commented on the campaign, noting that incentivizing physical activity would help address the rising trend of lifestyle-related illnesses. Lower premiums, she added, would enhance accessibility and affordability of health insurance, contributing to a healthier society.
