The judiciary Service Commission has announced the appointment of Frida Boyani Mokaya as the new Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, replacing Anne Amadi.
According to the judiciary, this appointment follows successful interviews conducted by the Commission on Monday, March 18. Mokaya emerged as the top candidate among seven applicants, and her selection was based on merit, performance, and suitability for the role. She is slated to serve in this capacity for a term of five years.
Mokaya’s academic background includes pursuing a Master’s Degree in Law at the University of Nairobi. She obtained her Bachelor’s in Law from the same institution in 1993, followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
Prior to her recent appointment, Mokaya held the position of registrar at the Judicial Service Commission since 2012. Her professional experience encompasses various roles within the judiciary, including District Magistrate (1997-1999), Resident Magistrate (1999-2003), Senior Resident Magistrate (2003-2008), Principal Magistrate (2008-2011), and Senior Principal Magistrate (2011-2012).
Additionally, she is affiliated with several professional associations such as the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA), the International Association of Women Judges-Kenya, the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries (ICPSK), and the East African Magistrates and Judges Association (EAMJA).
In her new capacity, Mokaya will assume key responsibilities, including serving as the secretary to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and the National Council on Administration of Justice. Furthermore, she will act as the Chief Administrator and Accounting Officer of the Judiciary.
Her duties encompass preparing expenditure estimates for each financial year, submitting them to the National Assembly, and overseeing the efficient management of day-to-day operations, administration of human resources, and support services within the Judiciary, in accordance with the roles outlined in the Judicial Service Act 2011.
