President Joe Biden has declared that he will not seek re-election, citing the need to focus on his current duties and expressing confidence in the country’s future.

This decision marks a significant moment in American politics, as Biden reflected on his administration’s achievements and the challenges overcome during his presidency.

In a heartfelt statement to the nation, President Biden highlighted the strides made under his leadership. “Today, America has the strongest economy in the world,” he stated, pointing to historic investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and climate legislation.

He emphasized accomplishments such as lowering prescription drug costs, expanding affordable healthcare, and providing care to veterans exposed to toxic substances. Biden also noted the landmark appointment of the first African American woman to the Supreme Court and the passage of the first significant gun safety law in 30 years.

Biden attributed these successes to the resilience and cooperation of the American people. “Together, we overcame a once-in-a-century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression,” he said. He commended the nation for protecting democracy and strengthening international alliances.

Reflecting on his tenure, Biden expressed profound gratitude. “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” he remarked. Despite his initial intention to seek re-election, Biden concluded that stepping aside was in the best interest of his party and the country. He pledged to dedicate himself fully to his presidential responsibilities for the remainder of his term.

In a separate tweet, Biden offered a significant endorsement for the upcoming election. “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this,” he shared, signaling a clear endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris to face former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

The announcement also included acknowledgment of key figures and supporters. Biden thanked Harris for her partnership and expressed appreciation for the faith and trust placed in him by the American people.

In closing, President Biden reaffirmed his enduring belief in the nation’s potential. “I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can’t do — when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America.”

Biden is scheduled to address the nation later this week to elaborate on his decision. This announcement sets the stage for a pivotal period in American politics, as the Democratic Party prepares for the upcoming election without its incumbent president.
