Businessman Jimi Wanjigi has moved to court, filing a petition seeking the return of personal items valued at over KES 8.5 million, which were seized during a police raid at his Muthaiga residence.
The raid, which took place on August 8-9, 2024, saw the confiscation of a variety of luxury items, including smartphones, electronics, jewelry, and cash. Wanjigi now claims these assets were wrongfully taken and is asking the court to compel the authorities to return them immediately.
The list of items seized is extensive and includes high-end electronics such as two iPhone 15 ProMax, an iPhone 14, two Samsung Flip 5 phones, an Apple iPad, and a Samsung tablet. Wanjigi’s petition highlights that these items, in addition to being expensive, were of critical personal and business use, and their confiscation has significantly inconvenienced him.
The petition also outlines a range of luxury jewelry that was taken during the raid. Notably, this includes a pair of Old Cut Diamond Stud Earrings valued at approximately KES 2.1 million, along with several Cartier pieces such as Hoop Love Earrings in Rose Gold, which are estimated to be worth KES 268,320. Other valuable jewelry from the renowned Cartier brand includes a Love Ring with three diamonds, priced at KES 528,900, Pave Diamond Stud Earrings, and Trinity Earrings valued at KES 258,000.
In addition to Cartier, other high-end luxury brands are featured in the list of confiscated items, including Van Cleef & Arpels. Wanjigi claims that the police took a Van Cleef & Arpels Mother of Pearl Vintage Alhambra pendant valued at KES 387,000. Other notable pieces include an Elias Baguette Ring with Diamond, priced at KES 129,000, and Prada Crystal Embellished Stud Earrings, valued at KES 107,070.
A number of Mejuri rings were also seized, including a Slim Signet Ring, valued at KES 26,832, a Duo Beaded Stacker Ring, and a Gemstone Coil Ring. Wanjigi’s collection of luxury accessories also extended to a Hermes Clic H Bracelet, which was taken during the raid and is valued at KES 90,300.
.The list also includes audio devices, with Wanjigi asserting that two pairs of Apple AirPods Max, each valued at KES 103,200, were taken, alongside Bose Ultra Open Earbuds and a Sony WH-1000MX5 headset, also valued at KES 51,600.
In addition to the high-value items, Wanjigi claims that a sum of cash was seized during the raid. He states that KES 38,700 belonging to Irene Wanjigi, KES 51,600 from Mary Wambui, and an additional KES 12,900 from the same individual were taken. Moreover, KES 9,030 belonging to a staff member named Wanjiku was also confiscated.
In his petition, Wanjigi decried the raid as not only illegal but also a violation of his rights. “The actions of the police during this raid were not just a blatant abuse of power but also a direct infringement on my property rights. The seizure of these items has caused significant financial and personal distress,” Wanjigi’s statement in the petition read
