Business Mogul Humphrey Kariuki has initiated a move to repossess his Thika-based WOW liquor company that has been in possession of the state since 2019.

The move is in line with a court order made in 2021, which asked the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to facilitate the repossession, all in vain.

In a letter written by Kariuki’s lawyers to KRA, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), the businessman wants all occupants of his premises to vacate with immediate effect.

“Our client has suffered and continues to suffer grave harm, loss and damage due to your acts of wrongful seizure, unlawful detention and illegal occupation of his facilities,” read part of the letter.

The premises is currently under the custody of GSU officers after the KRA invaded it over accusations of tax evasion by WOW Beverages Limited, owned by Kariuki.

Kariuki’s push to gain access to his plant comes days after he was appointed by President William Ruto to a 12-member National Investment Council.
