Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has announced that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has ditched SMS for students to receive their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results following error issues during the release of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results.
Instead, the 899,453 candidates who sat the 2023 KCSE examinations can now check their results directly through the KNEC student portal at https://www.knec.ac.ke or via the direct link https://results.knec.ac.ke/.
Releasing the results on Monday, CS Machogu reported that 1,216 candidates had attained the highest Grade A, while 201,133 achieved C+ and above. In total, 526,222 candidates secured grades D+ and higher.
Regrettably, Machogu noted that 4,113 cases of examination irregularities had been identified, leading to 4 candidates having their results cancelled for impersonation.
The CS further directed universities to review their course cut-off points to align their programs with the new grading structure used in the 2023 KCSE examinations.
He observed that there was a notable decline in performance for subjects done in the afternoon, indicating candidates had less early preparation time compared to previous years.
3,685 candidates missed the examinations altogether, according to the CS.
The Education Council will also dispatch results to sub-county education officers for distribution to exam centers, where candidates can pick up their results.
The ministry had previously communicated the results via an SMS platform that was backed by mobile service providers.
But last year, Belio Kipsang, the principal secretary for education, declared that the SMS system would be discontinued.
In the Basic Education Committee of the National Assembly, Belio stated that they would implement a more efficient system at no cost to the public.
“We are developing systems that rely on our resources and offer our candidates complimentary services,” he declared.
