Dr. Peter Mbae, the Head of Government Delivery Services (GDS), has tendered his resignation, citing persistent challenges and unresolved issues that made his position untenable. In a formal letter dated January 9, 2025, addressed to the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service, Mr. Felix Koskei, Dr. Mbae announced his decision to step down, marking the end of a dedicated tenure in public service.

Dr. Mbae detailed his journey in government, having been appointed in January 2023 as Secretary for Investments Promotion in the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry. He also served as Head of the Ministerial Delivery Unit. Later, he was appointed Head of Ministerial Programmes in the Ministry of Public Service before assuming the GDS role in June 2024.

“In all these positions, I served diligently with utmost commitment and sacrifice, driven solely by the genuine desire to achieve sustainable transformation in the lives of citizens in line with the Kenya Kwanza Government manifesto,” Dr. Mbae stated in his resignation letter.

However, despite his passion and dedication, unresolved issues consistently brought to the attention of relevant authorities remained a significant impediment. “It has not been possible to carry out my duties as intended, and my position as Head of Government Delivery Services is no longer tenable,” he wrote, underscoring his frustration over unaddressed challenges.

Dr. Mbae concluded his letter by expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the public sector, signaling his commitment to Kenya’s broader development agenda despite his departure.
