Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor uncovered disturbing findings on Friday into the tragic demise of Rita Waeni, a student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), whose body was found dismembered at a short-stay apartment in Roysambu.

During a press briefing, Pathologist Oduor disclosed that Waeni’s skin displayed evidence of deep cuts inflicted by a sharp object. Additionally, he mentioned that her bones seemed to have been severed with a hacksaw, a method he claimed to have encountered for the first time in his forensic career.

“This is the first time I have come across such an incident. I have never come across such in my forensic life,” said Dr. Oduor.

“The killer looked like he knew what he was doing because when you look at the skin, it looks like it was cut by a sharp object, but when you look at the bone, it was sawed off with what looked like a hacksaw.”

Oduor revealed that the perpetrator cleanly severed the head of Waeni’s femur, leading to the detachment of her legs from the body. The victim whose head was missing from the horrific scene experienced substantial blood loss, with samples collected for further analysis attributing the Waeni’s death to the inflicted cuts.

Furthermore, Oduor noted an attempt to remove the victim’s fingernails, speculating that it might have been an effort to conceal evidence and prevent DNA identification. DNA samples were subsequently collected for analysis to aid in the ongoing police investigation.

The pathologist suggested a potential scuffle between Waeni and her assailant, emphasizing the significance of analyzing the victim’s fingers for the culprit’s DNA.

Rita Waeni met her tragic end in a short-stay premise in Roysambu after an encounter with an individual she had arranged to meet.

In connection with the murder, three suspects have been apprehended, one of whom was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) while allegedly attempting to flee the country based on a tip-off from the public.
