Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has implemented updated fees for government services, which include the replacement of identification cards (IDs), passports, as well as birth and death certificates.
In a memo directed to all department heads, county coordinators, national registry, and sub-county registrars, Kindiki highlighted that the implementation followed the conclusion of a public engagement process conducted from November 14, 2023, to December 5, 2023.
“As you are aware, on November 14, 2023, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration published in Kenya gazette an intention to review fees, charges and levies regarding services offered by the state department for immigration. “You may recall that the implementation of the said charges was January 1. However, the charges were to be subjected to public participation and therefore the state department conducted the public participation sessions,” the memo read in part.
Under the new directive, Kenyans applying for a replacement of their ID will pay KES 1,000 up from KES 100. those applying for an ID for the first time will pay KES 300, a service that was previously free of charge.
To obtain either a birth or death certificate, applicants will now be required to remit KES 200, up from the initial fee of KES 50. Late registration of births or deaths will now attract a fee of KES 500, an increase from the previous charge of KES150.
Those seeking passports for the ordinary 34 paged passport, will be charged KES 7,500 up from KES 4,500. For the 50 paged passport, applicants will pay KES 9,500 from KES 6,000. For the ordinary 66 pages passport the fee has been increased from KES 7500 to KES 12,500
Charges for regaining citizenship after renouncing will be KES 50,000 up from KES 5,000, while the cost of renouncing citizenship has increased from KES 20,000 to KES 50,000. To gain citizenship by marriage, one will be required to pay KES 50,000 up from KES 5,000.
Charges for Single Entry Visas have also increased from $50 to $100 while the multiple entry visas now cost $500 up from $100.
The move is intended to be in line with the government’s objective of increasing revenue collection to KES 2.6 trillion during the ongoing fiscal year 2023/24.
