Former presidential candidate George Wajackoyah has declared his intention to contest in Kenya’s 2027 general election. Speaking on Tuesday, December 3, the Roots Party leader cited dissatisfaction with the current Kenya Kwanza administration as the driving force behind his decision.

“I am officially announcing that I will be on the ballot in 2027. I’m running again because I am bitter. I disagree with how things are being done,” Wajackoyah stated. He criticized the government’s handling of healthcare reforms, particularly the introduction of the Social Health Authority (SHA).

According to Wajackoyah, the SHA policy lacks transparency and adequate public involvement. “The government’s health system is flawed, as it simply copied foreign policies,” he said. He questioned the policy’s originality and its alignment with Kenya’s needs. “Was the public involved in the policy that touches their lives?”

Wajackoyah also reflected on Kenya’s historical achievements in healthcare, suggesting that the country was once a leader in the sector. “If you look at our history as a country, we were the best in terms of healthcare. Some countries copied our policy,” he remarked.

The presidential hopeful pledged to prioritize youth involvement in governance, emphasizing his connection with younger generations. “I am a Gen Z of 65 years. I am the one who laid the foundation of the language to be used by the youth because they were afraid in the past,” Wajackoyah claimed.

In the 2022 elections, Wajackoyah garnered 61,969 votes, finishing third. He joins a growing list of aspirants for the 2027 race, including Nelson Havi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Morara Kebaso, and Okiya Omtatah, who is evaluating his chances.
