Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua issued an apology to former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta for the negative politicking that occurred during the 2022 General Elections.

Speaking from his Karen residence on Monday during an interview with one media outlet, Gachagua urged Kenya’s first lady to pardon the political community for engaging in mudslinging against her during the election campaigns.

“I regret involving Mama Ngina Kenyatta in the political affairs of the last general elections. She holds a revered position as our mother. Therefore, I extend a plea for forgiveness on behalf of our team for any discomfort caused to her. I am committed to upholding her dignity and that of all individuals from our region,” Gachagua stated.

Additionally, he emphasized the familial bond with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, describing him as “one of us” and expressing wishes for his well-being in retirement.

Gachagua underscored the importance of unity among leaders in the Mount Kenya Region and the nation at large, stating, “Our strength lies in our unity. I advocate for the protection of our generation, stressing the importance of consensus and mutual respect in governance.”

Following the 2022 polls, DP Gachagua engaged in contentious exchanges with Mama Ngina, often targeting former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In one instance, during a public address in Nyeri County, he urged Mama Ngina to allocate half of the Kenyatta land estate to the Mau Mau and their descendants, alleging land grabbing.

Gachagua expressed readiness to mobilize support for the Mau Mau families to reclaim the land from the former first family.

“I am encouraged by the recent discussions on supporting the Mau Mau. Despite the historical neglect, there is still an opportunity for redress.

We appeal for tangible assistance to the Mau Mau. It is only fair that the land taken from them be returned, with at least half allocated to the Mau Mau and their descendants, including myself,” remarked the Deputy President during the public address.
