Former nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Carren Atieno Muga was arrested on Saturday as investigations intensify into the brutal lynching of a murder suspect at Chemase Police Station, Nandi County.

Police reported that Ms. Muga, the mother of one of the prime suspects linked to the killing of 38-year-old Enock Kipsang, is allegedly connected to an organ-harvesting syndicate. Authorities intercepted her on the Chemelil-Miwani-Kisumu road while she was reportedly attempting to flee the area. Her Toyota Harrier was seized as part of the investigation.

The incident at Chemase Police Station on January 3 occurred after a mob forcibly removed Victor Kimtai, the murder suspect, from police custody. Kimtai was stoned, beheaded, and his body set on fire. The mob later returned to vandalize the station, injuring three police officers and setting the building ablaze. According to police, Kimtai had reportedly threatened to expose individuals, including family members, allegedly involved in the organ-harvesting ring.

National Police Service (NPS) officials confirmed that efforts to apprehend other suspects are ongoing. “We are closing in on the other prime suspects in the matter herein,” read a statement from the NPS. Authorities also revealed that some stolen items, including the National Flag and Kenya Police Service Flag, were recovered.

Kipsang’s mutilated body was discovered abandoned on a roadside, with his head later found in a borehole and other body parts missing. The gruesome murder sparked widespread outrage across Tinderet Constituency, prompting over 3,000 locals to storm the Chemase Police Post demanding justice.

The mob violence has raised significant concerns about public order and police safety. In response, Deputy Inspectors General Eliud Lagat (Kenya Police) and Gilbert Masengeli (Administration Police) convened a meeting with senior officers to address the issue. “We are committed to restoring law and order in the area and fostering peaceful coexistence among residents,” said an official statement.

Investigations into the alleged organ-harvesting syndicate and the attack on the police station continue as police pursue additional suspects.
