FKF prepares for crucial special general meeting with elections on the agenda

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Secretary General Barry Otieno has confirmed that the federation is fully prepared for the upcoming Special General Meeting (SGM) scheduled for Saturday, August 24. The meeting is expected to address critical issues, most notably the roadmap for the FKF elections, which have been highly anticipated following previous disruptions.

The FKF’s initial attempt to organize elections earlier this year was halted by a court order in March, following a petition filed by Sports Journalist Milton Nyakundi. The upcoming SGM is seen as a pivotal moment for Kenyan football, as delegates are set to discuss and vote on the formation of an electoral board and the adoption of an electoral code that will guide the election process.

“We have sent invitations to members to attend the SGM. The petition that was filed to stop us from conducting any activities could have destroyed our Kenyan sport. In this SGM, FKF members will put in place an electoral board and also vote for an electoral code that will be used to conduct the elections,” Otieno stated.

Otieno emphasized that only legitimate delegates will be allowed to participate in the meeting, addressing concerns from previous gatherings where non-members attempted to intrude. He assured stakeholders that any complaints or issues raised during the meeting would be handled appropriately.

The FKF Secretary General also highlighted the significance of the upcoming elections in stabilizing the federation ahead of major football events. “We hope for the SGM to be successful, and we pray that no one will file a case to stop it so that we can conduct fair elections and continue growing Kenyan football,” Otieno added.

He further noted FKF’s successes under the current administration, including taking teams to the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), CECAFA, and the Women’s World Cup. The SGM will see FKF delegates vote on the electoral code and the proposed Electoral Board, among other key issues.
