Five people have been reported dead while several other injured after a lorry collided with a matatu on the Katito-Kendu Bay road in Kisumu.

The collision occurred when a lorry transporting sand to Kisumu experienced a tire burst, causing the driver to lose control. The lorry veered into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a matatu bound for Homa Bay.

Presently, two injured individuals are undergoing treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu, while others receive medical attention at the Nyakach sub-county hospital.

Allan Mwangi, the Nyanza Regional Traffic police boss, confirmed the accident and stated that investigations are underway to determine the precise number of passengers involved in the tragedy.
